The jobs that never get done

Send me the list. I’ll work through it.

Why not put together a list of jobs, send it across with a few pictures if it helps and I will provide you with an estimate to get the work finally done.

I am happy to visit to take a look and if I can, I will complete the work there and then. If you need to schedule the work around your diary, I will be happy to fit the work in as you need.

To-Do

Done

  • Hole in the plasterboard where the door was thrown open
  • Door that needs hanging, or putting back into service
  • Flatpack wardrobe still in its box
  • Petrol mower that won't start
  • Shelves, mirrors and pictures to go up
  • Paving slabs to lay before the summer

Customer care is important to me. You can be sure that I will quickly respond to your enquiry.

About Simon

I treat your home as if it were my own.

After working many years in a large organisation, I started doing something that gives me the satisfaction of seeing the tangible results of my work and allows me to deliver top class customer care.

Providing handyman and property maintenance services is something I really enjoy. The variety of the work, the challenges and problems to overcome keep me highly motivated. One day I might be outside building a deck, then I am indoors putting up shelves and pictures.

My approach is simple: I won’t leave until you are 100% satisfied with my work. It is simple, I look to treat your home as if it were my own. The work won’t be completed until both of us are satisfied with the result and I will leave your home clean and tidy.

Services

The best part of this work is the sheer variation.

As a handyman I have many skills, but here is an idea of the types of work I am really good at.

  1. 01

    Interior wall repairs

The table was pushed, a door was thrown open and the result is a nasty hole in the plasterboard. Fixing this can result in a near invisible solution.

  2. 02

    Door repairs and hanging

Replacing a damaged door, plugging and refitting hinge fixings or putting an existing door back into service. If you need, I am happy to source a suitable new door and then fit it: a simple no-fuss door hanging service.

  3. 03

    Bespoke storage and wardrobes

Built-in wardrobes and bespoke storage to make the best use of that 'dead space' in your home, from a funny little alcove to an awkward corner by the stairs.

  4. 04

    Flatpack furniture

The box has been opened, parts lying around the floor, instructions upside down. I have years of experience in building wardrobes, cupboards & furniture, so the trip home from Ikea can be relaxed.

  5. 05

    Garden Machinery Repairs

Before you take your petrol lawn mower off to the recycling centre, give me a ring. If it won't start, or you'd like the oil changed and the air filter cleaned out, I can get your machinery back to working condition.

  6. 06

    Brickwork and paving

Have you ever tried mixing concrete in a wheelbarrow? I have got the tools and equipment to make this sort of job much, much easier. Let me take the load (without the back pain).

  7. 07

    Decks, gates and outdoor jobs

Rotten deck posts and timbers replaced, new garden gates hung, shed roofs re-felted. Interior and exterior jobs that tidy up the little things that just don't seem to get done.

  8. 08

    Pictures, shelves, CCTV and more

I am more than happy to put up pictures, install CCTV systems or assemble furniture. Lights, mirrors, bike racks, towel rings: the range of jobs I can tackle around your home is huge.

I know my limits.

Some jobs require professional qualifications, electricians and gas engineers for example. If I feel a job is beyond me, I will look to recommend someone else who does have the skills.

Recent projects

Major projects as well as smaller. No job is too small.

Job 01

A gate for wheelchair access

A client wanted a bespoke gate making to allow wheelchair access to the garden. The job involved moving the gate posts and then fitting the new gate. A very satisfying job and one very pleased client.

Job 02

A new kitchen with walnut worktops

The builders left an empty room, at which point I took over. Fitting the solid walnut worktops needed specialist tools and some tricky jointing to give the storage and worktop a 'wrap around' feel.

Job 03

Oak threshold

The old broken threshold and floor covering removed and replaced with new, keeping the style and look of the rest of the floor.

Job 04

A shed with a new felt roof

The whole roof of particle board and felt needed taking off and replacing while the owner was out of the country. A nice new felt roof, good for another 10 years.

Job 05

A wardrobe in a funny little alcove

A bespoke built-in wardrobe for a young lad: short hanging space and plenty of room for football kit, drawn up first in 3D so the family could see how it would look.

Job 06

A water-damaged ceiling

After a leak from the bathroom above, the old artex was pulled off and a new coat applied, replicating the existing swirl pattern.

What kind of work can you do for me?
I have a wide range of skills built up over 35 years. If your project seems different to my recent work, get in contact to see if I can help, or perhaps I can steer you to a tradesman using my local network. Some jobs require professional qualifications, electricians and gas engineers for example. If I feel a job is beyond me, I will recommend someone who does have the skills.
How can I get an idea of cost?
Send photos or perhaps a video showing me what you require. Most smart phones can easily do this and it really speeds up the early discussions. I have a minimum charge for the first visit, which if I am provided with enough information up front, may be sufficient to get the work completed in one trip. I try to make sure that my costs are totally transparent so you can be confident you understand how the final price is arrived at.
What about the materials?
I am happy to install or fit the items you have bought, or if you would prefer, you can leave it to me to buy the bits and pieces that you will need. I will make a charge for the travelling time to collect any items you need me to purchase.
Who will be coming into my home?
Generally only I will be working in your home. I have an extended DBS record (previously called a CRB), checked by the police for any criminal records, and I'm happy to show it to you. Where I may bring in help for bigger jobs, they will also have passed a DBS check.
What about all the tidying up?
I will tidy up at the end of each day and when the work is completed, I will clear your home of all mess and rubbish. I will treat your home with the respect I would expect for my own.

What customers say about Simon.

“Over a number of visits in 18 months, Simon has helped transform our new-build house into a home. He is a skilled and innovative handyman. For us he has put up pendant lighting, shelves (with a clever solution to hide the wires of the lighting for it), lots of frames, mirrors, bike racks in the garage, bathroom towel rings etc etc. Along with it he is interesting to chat to, a nice guy to boot, who has exemplary manners (he wears 'house' shoes so your floors do not end up caked in mud) and offers good rates. There was not a single thing bad I can say about him and his work in the multiple visits he did for us to get all the work done for us was of the highest quality.”

“I just wanted to say how happy I am with the work Simon did for us today. I had quite a few 'puppy-chewed' skirting boards around the house which I quite thought needed replacing. Instead, Simon looked at them and suggested rather than replacing them, he could repair them, and so he did, and they look good as new! I am delighted with the result, but also really appreciated how he was able to suggest a logical solution that also saved me time and money! Simon is also a thoroughly nice person who works efficiently, and to a really high standard, leaving everything tidy afterwards. I will definitely be calling him again with future jobs around the home and garden. Thank you, Simon!”

“Thanks so much to Simon for helping us on such short notice. He is very reliable, affordable and skilled. On top of that, he’s very kind and managed to book us in very fast. We will definitely be contacting him again for any other future repair needs.”

“Simon did a brilliant job of remodelling an awkward ugly corner of the third bedroom where the stairwell protruded into a pleasant useful set of stepped shelves. Simon was great, punctual and reliable, clean and tidy and had great carpentry and design skills. He was also great to have around whilst the job was efficiently carried out. Highly recommended by me!”

“Simon spent the day doing many odd jobs that had been piling up at home. He put up some cupboards in the kitchen and garage, some bike racks and tool racks in the garage, mended my back door, put up a carbon monoxide detector and fitted a new dimmer switch. He popped out to buy the dimmer switch and a couple of items that I needed. He was very thorough, making sure I was happy with everything and even returned a couple of days later to install a door lock that he had ordered for me. Simon was friendly, professional and worked incredibly hard to make sure all of the work was completed in the day. He tidied up after the work and left a smile on my face. I am so happy with the work Simon did and will definitely use his services again. Thank you for such a great service.”
